Day 1 Tokyo Sudbury Art+Music Workshop

Day 1 Tokyo Sudbury Art+Music Workshop

Our first day of summer camp begins with an improvisation jam session, then a treasure hunt in Tokyo Sudbury:s lush green sanctuary — the garden. Here campers hunt for the Genesis Cards. This is their introduction to the 44 rainbow colored cards that will be used to inspire and delight children in the art sessions to come.

Story-telling with the Genesis Cards

Each camper receives 5 cards chosen at random. Campers put the cards in any order they like to create a story. By the time we were finished, we had traveled to distant galaxies and deep into the gardens and oceans of planet earth.

Painting Color by Color

A brand new sketchpad is like the beginning of an adventure. The first picture will set the tone for what comes next. Campers begin their first page with their favorite color, then proceed on the next page to paint with two, and next three colors that were picked as favorite colors. Children named what these colors meant to them. Here we see Nao:s river and Seiji:s gold flag. With the introduction of each color campers are ready to tell a story. Here you see Nao:s camping picture and Seiji:s animal in the woods. It:s interesting to note how Nao and Seiji were so enjoying each others company that there are many striking similarities between these animal-filled landscapes. Finally Genesis Cards hidden under these landscapes were revealed and to the surprise of the children, they saw exciting similiarities that they had no way of knowing before hand.
